Old World Gourmet Review #SpecialMom {Sponsor Spotlight}

Old World Gourmet began as the dream of Deanna Sullivan in 2001.  (Who doesn't dream about delicious drinks and wine!)  She wanted a mid life career change and a better work life balance, so she struck out on her own. Beginning with the original wine ice frozen wine mix, she has nurtured Old World Gourmet to where it is today. There are now over 100 products in an array of flavors spanning frozen wine, liquor, cake and cracker mixes.

Old World Gourmet products have received numerous awards and have been reviewed (to nearly universal praise) by food and drink bloggers across the internet. All of OWG's products are hand assembled in the USA (awesome!!) and the company is women owned and operated.

I was sent the Red Wine Assortment for review.  This assortment has three yummy flavors: OWG Wine Ice, OWG Sangria Freeze, and the OWG Blueberry Pomegranate Freeze.  These cocktail mixes are like slushies for grown-ups!  These cocktail mixes are so easy to use.  Simply mix with your FAVORITE wine, freeze, (about 3 hours) stir and pour into your favorite wine glasses and enjoy.

We celebrated my brother's birthday last weekend, so I thought that would be the perfect opportunity to make one of these.  I decided to make the Sangria Mix.  There are two ways you can make this.  The first is to add the mix, a bottle of your favorite red wine, and then the wine bottle filled with water to a gallon bag or a 2 qt. pitcher and mix well.  Then, freeze for at least 3 hours and serve.  I didn't have 3 hours to spare, so I made it the second way.  It's simple:  you mix the sangria mix, wine, and water.  Then, add a cup of the wine mix and a cup of ice and blend.  So easy!

This sangria was really good!  The wine flavor still comes through nicely, but is sweetened with the addition of the mix.  If you prefer less sugary tasting cocktails you may want to try not using all the mix.  I think that would really make the flavor of the wine pop and BONUS- you would get to make these again with the leftover mix!  Everyone at the party liked this refreshing cocktail, plus it's just pretty too. :)

OWG also sent me some Cracker Smack to review.

 Cracker Smack is a slightly spicy, savory coating that will take your normal plain 'ol saltine crackers to an entirely new gourmet experience! This is so easy to make. According to the directions, you simply place Cracker Smack in the mixing bag that is provided for you, add 1 1/2 cups of canola oil, and 4 tubes of your favorite saltines. Toss several times to coat crackers evenly. Best if left overnight! Store in an airtight container.

 I didn't want to make quite that many crackers, so I used half of the Cracker Smack, 1/2 cup of oil, and 2 tubes of saltines.  Put them in a gallon ziplock bag, shook 'em all up, and stored them overnight.  It worked perfectly!  (Now I'll have some more Cracker Smack for later!)  Let me tell you, these crackers are GOOD, but they definitely have some kick!  These crackers would go great with cheese, soups or stews, chili, or just to have out as a snack when you have friends over. And, of course, have a cold beer (or ice water) ready when you indulge in these cause they pack a smack!

Connect & Follow: You can Like Old World Gourmet on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.

  16. I like the idea that you can adjust the mix so alter the sweetness and still have some left over for another glass. The crackers sound tasty as well.
